Developing an animated series takes a special set of skills, and knowledge.  Join The Creators Society as we bring you a panel of experts to share what they know with you.  In this amazing event we will hear from both the creators and the development executives on the process of developing an animated series.  They will share first-hand knowledge on the development process, tips on creating, writing, and even pitching shows. Emily Brundige

Writer | Creator | Story Editor

Emily Brundige is a writer and creator for animation. In 2012, she created the hit Shut Up! Cartoons series Pubertina for YouTube, which garnered millions of views, fans, and haters. Since then, she's gone on to write on and develop shows for Disney, Fox ADHD, Warner Bros., Cartoon Network, Silvergate Media, Nickelodeon, and developed Harvey Girls Forever! for Dreamworks TV/Netflix. In 2019, she debuted her independent animated short film, GOLDIE, which has been touring film festivals and was featured on Short of the Week. She most recently served as Story Editor for the award-winning show Hilda for Silvergate/Netflix.



Michael Shawn Lewis

Executive Producer on  Jim Henson's Slash and Bubbles

Michael Shawn Lewis is a show runner, executive producer, writer and director for the Jim Henson Company’s television series, Splash and Bubbles (an underwater animated series, currently 40 1/2 hour episodes) airing on both PBSKids and Netflix.  The Henson Company hired him to direct a number of episodes over three seasons of their original Netflix series, Word Party.   He is currently shepherding the development of two book series, developing an animated short, and stewing over a handful of his own projects. Originally coming from theater, Michael received a Drama Desk nomination for his work as producer Off-broadway.  Additionally, Michael was co-creator and producer for the live international touring productions of Dinosaur Train Live!  and Sid the Science Kid Live!. Mr. Lewis was president and a founding member of the New York Children’s Theater Festival, a non-profit organization created to support the development of quality live children’s entertainment.



Nicole Rivera

Vice President of Development,
Cartoon Network

Nicole Rivera is Vice President of Development for Cartoon Network Original Series, where she works to identify and shepherd new animated series. Prior to joining the development team at Cartoon Network, Rivera was on the development teams at Universal Kids & Family Productions and DreamWorks Animation TV. She also worked for Cartoon Network from 2008-2015, first as part of the Content Acquisitions Team and then as Manager of Current Series, where she worked on shows including Steven Universe, Clarence and the reimagined The Powerpuff Girls.

Previously, Rivera worked in production and development at Focus Features and served as the assistant to one of the producers on the 20th Century Fox Film, The Devil Wears Prada.

Rivera holds a BA in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two young sons.



Frank Saperstein

Executive Producer | President | Co-Chairman, Yeti Farm Creative

As President, Executive Producer and Co-Chairman of Yeti Farm Creative, the Kelowna, B.C. based animation studio and IP incubator, Frank has been instrumental in growing both revenue and personnel by 300% in less than a year, securing production services on Sony’s “Hotel Transylvania”, airing on Disney Channel WW and “Pete The Cat” for Amazon Prime.  Frank is responsible for all aspects of the growing companies creative, business and strategic positioning.  He also serves as CEO of Surprise Bag, Inc., his boutique consulting and producing shingle. 

Previously as EVP, Kids, Family and Animation for Tricon Film’s & Television, Frank launched, grew and supervised all aspects of the expanding division, leveraging the company's existing infrastructure and expertise in reality and factual programming, resulting in a coveted BAFTA nomination for the Disney XD animated series, “Counterfeit Cat”.  Frank has served as SVP of Family Television for Entertainment One during a time of exponential growth, where he was instrumental in the global roll out and expansion of the “Peppa Pig” brand phenomenon.  As Co-CEO/Creative Director of PASI (Philippine Animation Studio, Inc.) he successfully transformed the traditional animation studio into a publicly listed Asian digital media conglomerate. He has also served as a Development Executive with VH1/MTV Networks.  

Frank’s credits include gender-bending classics “Pee-wee’s Playhouse”, (CBS), “Bob & Margaret” (Comedy Central) and “Ren & Stimpy”, (Nickelodeon), as well as a stint as Producer/Director with Prince’s Paisley Park Studios.  He holds an MFA from New York University Tish School of The Arts where he won a Ten Best Student Oscar and several other awards and accolades.  



Daniel Wineman

Sr. Director, Animation Development,
Nickelodeon

Daniel Wineman is currently Senior Director, Animation Development, Nickelodeon, with a focus on sourcing and shepherding original animated properties. As part of his duties, he is heading up Nickelodeon’s Intergalactic Shorts Program. 

With over 20 years of experience in animation, he was previously Director, Development, at Disney TV Animation where he oversaw the development of shows including; The Owl HouseAmphibia and DuckTales. Prior to that, he held a global role as Director of International Original Series & Co-productions, shepherding animation produced by Disney in all international hubs. In his first role at Disney, he acted as Director, Current Series, for Disney XD out of the UK, where he oversaw the creative and production of both fully-owned series and partnership productions across the region. He began his journey in 1998 at Cartoon Network, where he held roles in original animation, programming, acquisitions & co-productions.

Wineman graduated from the University of Michigan with honors in the Humanities focusing on Art History and Comparative Literature.

Mike Blum

Founder - Pipsqueak Animation

Mike Blum is an Emmy nominated director and has won numerous awards in his multiple capacities as director, writer and producer. His animation studio, Pipsqueak Animation, has completed service work for clients such as Netflix, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, MTV, 420tv, truTV and PBS. Mike has personally created and sold animated properties to DreamWorksTV, Cartoon Network, Defy Media and Disney.
